Kerri Johannsen, the Iowa Environmental Council’s government affairs manager, will replace colleague Nathaniel Baer as energy program director. She begins the new job June 1. Baer, who was with the council 11 years, is leaving the state for another opportunity. “Energy policy is one of the most exciting areas to be in right now,” Johannsen said in a statement. “I am looking forward to building on the work Nathaniel and the council started to be a strong guiding voice for 100 percent renewable energy.” Baer said he has welcomed Iowa’s renewable energy growth. Johannsen, who was featured in this Business Record cover story on water quality, has a decade of experience in energy and nonprofit organization work. She has a bachelor’s degree in political science from Gustavus Adolphus College and a master of public policy degree from the Humphrey Institute at the University of Minnesota.
