Report: Des Moines economy ranks 58th, expected to grow 2.5 percent
The Des Moines economy — which is bigger than Alaska’s — ranks 58th among metropolitan areas and is expected to grow 2.5 percent in 2019-20, according to an analysis by the U.S. Conference of Mayors reported by the Des Moines Register. Des Moines’ economy was worth $54.4 billion in 2017. The gross metropolitan product grew 4 percent from 2016 and is projected to spike 8 percent by 2019. The Quad Cities ranked 127th, with $19.8 billion; Cedar Rapids came in at 134th, at $18.6 billion.
