Pohlman to retire as head of Ames National Corp.

Thomas Pohlman, chairman, president and CEO of bank holding company Ames National Corp., will retire Friday from a career in banking that spans more than 41 years, according to a release. Pohlman joined First National Bank in January 1998 as senior vice president. Ames National was formed in the 1970s as First National’s holding company. He was promoted to executive vice president in December 1998 and president in 1999. Pohlman was named executive vice president and chief operating officer of Ames National in 2006 and president and CEO in 2007. In 2016, he was recognized by the Ames Chamber of Commerce as Business Person of the Year. Ames National is the holding company for State Bank & Trust Co., Nevada; Boone Bank & Trust Co., Boone; Reliance State Bank, Story City; and United Bank & Trust, Marshalltown; in addition to First National Bank in Ames. The operation had total assets of more than $1.4 billion as of Dec. 31. It is the sixth-largest Iowa-based commercial bank holding company based on total deposits.
