Seven acres of land are currently being developed into Founders Garden, the latest addition at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden. The featured plants include “a custom, native annual seed mix and native ornamental grasses incorporating wild-collected species from across the Midwest,” according to a release. The new installation intends to depict an Iowa sand prairie, which is tolerant of dry environments and will evolve over time. “Sand prairies are ever changing and drought tolerant. It’s exciting to bring these botanically rich and diverse ecologies to the Garden,” said Ryan Drake, Ecological Horticulturist at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden. Completion of the garden is scheduled for this fall.
