Anthony Paustian’s new book, “A Quarter Million Steps,” has won a Book Excellence Award for Best Management Book from a Canada-based organization that considered hundreds of entries. Paustian, who is provost of Des Moines Area Community College’s West Des Moines campus, won a prize package worth $3,000 in the competition, which recognizes literary excellence and market potential. The book, which is available online and hits stores Oct. 20, examines inspirational lessons drawn from the work of the Apollo moon missions. Paustian interviewed many of the program’s astronauts to offer lessons in imagination, perception, creativity, effective leadership, mental focus, teamwork and work ethic, among other topics.
