Rare early photographs of Ankeny and stories of some of the city's earliest families are highlighted in a new book on the history of Ankeny, which becomes available Oct. 28. Written by Ankeny resident Terri Deems, "Ankeny" describes the city's origins as a freight and commuter train stop and features some of its earliest residents, among them the Irvine, Hildreth, Kochheiser and Lamberti families.  A portion of the author's profits will go to support the Ankeny Historical Society. The book retails for $21.99 and is available through local or online retailers or the publisher's website.
