owa City-based startup Pear Deck was awarded first place in the John Pappajohn Iowa Business Plan Competition today. The company's founders accepted a $25,000 check from venture capitalist John Pappajohn during an awards presentation luncheon at Drake University. Pear Deck developed an interactive application for Google Apps for Education schools. The second-place winner was Le Claire-based Green Start LLC, which received $15,000, and Iowa Adaptive Technologies was named third-place winner, receiving $10,000. The winning companies were selected from a field of 50 startups. With today's awards, the competition has distributed nearly $500,000 to 28 winning companies since it began in 2006.
