Orchard Place, central Iowa’s leading organization for children with mental health and behavioral challenges, has named Anne Starr as its new CEO.

Starr was on staff at Orchard Place Campus in the early 1990s as a casework therapist and will be moving back to Des Moines after nearly 15 years of working in various leadership roles at human service organizations in Kentucky, Nebraska and, most recently, Tennessee. For the past two years, Starr has served as the regional director of operations for The Guardian Group in Nashville. Her extensive background in clinical therapy and legislative efforts were two key factors that align with the mission and focus of Orchard Place, according to a news release by the organization.

Orchard Place has a budget of $19 million and 325 employees. It provides mental health care and behavioral services to nearly 8,000 children each year throughOrchard Place/Child Guidance Center, an outpatient community mental health center for children, adolescents and their families; Orchard Place Campus, a residential Psychiatric Medical Institute for Children; and Orchard Place/PACE Juvenile Center, which provides academic instruction, substance abuse treatment, skill-building services and Juvenile Court follow-up.
