United Way of Central Iowa’s 2012 campaign raised $26,580,242 -- nearly $1.5 million more than last year and the highest total in the organization’s 95-year history. Central Iowa ranks second to Seattle in per capita United Way giving among the country’s largest United Way organizations.

Campaign chairman Dan Houston announced the results Thursday evening at Principal Financial Group Inc.

Six companies raised $1 million or more during their 2012 United Way workplace campaigns: Aviva USA, DuPont Pioneer, Deere & Co., Nationwide Companies, Principal Financial Group Inc. and Wells Fargo & Co.

Additionally, 42 members donated $10,000 or more, joining the 2012 Tocqueville Society. The 315 Tocqueville Society members contributed $4.9 million to this year’s campaign.

The 2013 campaign will be chaired by Chris Littlefield, CEO of Aviva USA, and co-chaired by Tom Mahoney, president and CEO of the ITAGroup Inc.
