Author, historian and curator Heath Lee will speak Wednesday in Des Moines about her new book, “The League of Wives: The Untold Story of Women Who Took on the U.S. Government to Bring Their Husbands Home from Vietnam,” as part of the Harkin Institute for Public Policy & Citizen Engagement’s Summer Author Series. The book details the true story of the fierce band of women who battled Washington — and Hanoi — to bring their husbands home from the jungles in Vietnam. The event is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the State Historical Building, 600 E. Locust St. The book, which was published in April, has  been optioned by Reese Witherspoon’s film production company, Hello Sunshine, to be made into a feature film.
