Millions of Americans delayed medical care during the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of a nationwide initiative, Greater Des Moines oncologists are working with the Community Oncology Alliance and CancerCare to encourage adults to schedule cancer screenings. The “Time to Screen” campaign provides assistance and educational resources to help adults screen for six common cancers: breast, colorectal, cervical, prostate, lung and skin cancer. The initiative offers information about the importance of screening and finding local cancer screening locations through the Time to Screen website and toll-free hotline, 855-53-SCREEN (855-537-2733). “As we emerge from the pandemic, it’s time for Iowans to schedule their regular cancer screenings like mammograms and colonoscopies,” said Dr. Steven Heddinger, a COA practice member at Mission Cancer + Blood in Des Moines. “Adults, especially those over the age of 40, should visit TimeToScreen.org for help finding free or low-cost cancer screening options. Do it for yourself and the people you love.”
