Ferentz says he won’t restore his diversity advisory committee
Wednesday, June 22, 2022 4:01 PM
Des Moines Register:
Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz says there is no longer a plan to continue a formally organized personal diversity advisory group. In January, Ferentz’s decision to dissolve an advisory committee of former players "in its current form" became a polarizing news story. The outgoing chairman of the group, David Porter, spoke out about the poor optics of the decision and concluded that Ferentz should be fired. Ferentz later said, "The group is ongoing, and I am in the process of inviting new members to join the group." He now says the interim leader of Iowa athletics’ diversity, equity and inclusion efforts has suggested working internally with the university’s DEI staff instead.
