Nearly 100 people gathered at Mainframe Studios in Des Moines last week to help support three female entrepreneurs as they pitched to the crowd their ideas for helping their businesses grow.

Flourish, hosted by FemCity Des Moines, was held Nov. 12. The community event is designed to give female business owners a chance to earn funding by pitching their ideas to spark, grow or revamp their business to a live audience. All ticket sale proceeds were then presented to the crowd-selected winner to help fund her idea.

The winner of the second annual event was Monika Owczarski, owner of Sweet Tooth Farm, an urban farm in Des Moines’ River Bend Neighborhood. Owczarski plans to use the money to buy equipment to assist her in growing more produce for her neighborhood, in addition to the expansion of her farm.

Other finalists who participated in the event were Shawnna Stiver of Kind Co. and Jenny Quiner of Dogpatch Urban Gardens.

Flourish was sponsored by the Greater Des Moines Partnership and Taylored Benefits Inc.
