Greater Des Moines this week is welcoming high school students from Des Moines’ sister city of Saint-Etienne, France. Twenty-five students and two teachers from Lycée Sainte-Barbe and Lycée Saint-Louis are spending a week with host families from Johnston High School. In addition to attending classes with their Johnston friends, they will be touring various historic and cultural spots around the Greater Des Moines area. Saint-Etienne is located 34 miles southwest of Lyon in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in east-central France and has been twinned with Des Moines since 1985. Des Moines enjoys a special culinary relationship also through the DMACC Culinary Arts Program, which in January welcomed chefs from Saint-Etienne as part of the ongoing connection with the “Association des Cuisiniers de la Loire.”
