Iowa State University’s Debbie and Jerry Ivy College of Business has proposed a master’s degree in real estate science, a joint effort with the College of Design.

The degree, to be considered by the Board of Regents, builds on the University of Northern Iowa’s undergraduate program. UNI submitted a letter supporting ISU’s addition.

“We have a unique set of academic credentials,” with professors delving into the fields of finance, design, architecture, construction engineering and community planning, said ISU business school Dean David Spalding. “We have good breadth and depth.”

The 33-credit degree will be offered primarily online, with two of the courses offered on campus in two five-day stints.

The degree, if approved, will be offered for the first time in fall 2019. ISU expects 20 to 25 students to enroll in the early going.

The master’s was proposed after a survey of alumni and feedback from advisory committee members indicating demand for the degree, Spalding said.
