Residential and commercial building permits totaled $140.2 million in valuation last year in Urbandale, the highest valuation since 2005 and the fourth-highest on record, according to a release. In all, 942 permits were issued, including 177 for single-family houses and 15 for townhouses; 24 new commercial buildings had a valuation of $62.8 million, the second-highest commercial valuation of all time. The balance of permits were for commercial and residential projects that include additions, remodels, fences and decks. “Urbandale continues to attract residential and particularly commercial investment at a noteworthy pace,” Community Development Director Steve Franklin said in a release. “As the community continues to grow to the northwest, the city will be exploring the possibility of annexing additional territory in what is currently unincorporated Dallas County.”
