Des Moines came in at No. 10 on a monthly economic index.

The index, started in August, aims to offer a monthly snapshot of the economic health of the 102 largest metropolitan areas in the country, looking at 18 statistical indicators that include private-sector job growth and unemployment.

Des Moines was up to No. 10 in March, improving from No. 15 in February. Austin, Texas, held the top spot for the second straight month.
