Marshalltown is one of 25 small towns to receive a $25,000 T-Mobile Hometown Grant to support community development projects. The grant will go toward reconstructing downtown State Street in Marshalltown, which was damaged after the 2018 tornado, including enhancements to landscaping and safety and accessibility infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists. T-Mobile Hometown Grants is a $25 million, five-year initiative that launched in April 2021 to support the people and organizations helping small towns grow. T-Mobile works with Main Street America and Smart Growth America to assess the grant applications and choose recipients. Towns with a population of fewer than 50,000 people and a vision for their community to grow are encouraged to apply for a grant.
