The U.S. Small Business Administration backed 40 loans totaling nearly $14.7 million to Iowa businesses in September -- more than double the number and dollar amount from a year ago -- using its two largest lending programs.

Smash Park LLC, a new restaurant in West Des Moines, received the largest SBA-backed loan in the state last month. The business borrowed $3,853,500 and expects to add 20 jobs to its existing two positions.

The highest number of new jobs was pledged by SCI Holdings (Super Cuts of Central Iowa), which received a $150,000 loan and expects to create 29 additional jobs.

The SBA 7(a) and 504 program capitalized 18 new and 22 existing businesses that report creating 125 new jobs and retaining 247 jobs as a result.
