The Wonder of Words Festival, an event celebrating the written word and lifelong learning, will kick off Saturday in Des Moines. The festival concludes Nov. 12.

In its second year, the Wonder of Words Festival is hosting a week-long series of 14 events around Greater Des Moines. Each event is meant to connect writers, readers and publishers and to showcase a variety of writing genres.

Presenting authors during the festival include John C. Cash, son of singers Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash; Amy Tan, author of "The Joy Luck Club" and other books; and National Public Radio reporter Michele Norris, among others.
