The Iowa unemployment rate dropped to 4.4 percent in November, its lowest level in five years, Iowa Workforce Development said today in a release. "The Iowa job market appears to be on a path of steady and sustainable improvement," Teresa Wahlert, the agency's director, said in the release. The state gained a total of 5,000 jobs in October and November. Trade and transportation accounted for 1,900 of the 2,200 jobs added last month. The October unemployment rate was 4.6 percent. The national unemployment rate registered a five-year low of 7 percent in November.
