Iowa farmers ready to take advantage of the Hemp Farming Act can’t do so until the partial federal government shutdown lifts, reports Radio Iowa. President Donald Trump signed the farm bill into law last month, which included the act to remove hemp from the Controlled Substances Act, but farmers who’d like to get in on industrial hemp must fill out paperwork for the USDA and pass an FBI background check. Both agencies are on hold during the shutdown. Stuart Titus, president and CEO of Medical Marijuana Inc., said hemp can provide farmers with potentially four new income streams.
