Enrollment among Iowa State University students who are taking a mix of online courses with their traditional campus classes increased by nearly 40 percent in fiscal year 2012, the university said in a news release yesterday. Enrollment in online-only classes increased by more than 25 percent. The university also increased the number of courses offered for undergraduates by nearly 30 percent. The increase has caused many professors to incorporate online learning in traditional classes as well. For example, some professors are using a flipped class model where lectures are posted online for students to review and class time is spent working on assignments and team-based activities.
