Ryan Wise, director of the Iowa Department of Education, has been named education dean at Drake University. Wise has a doctorate from Harvard University, a master's in public administration from the University of Nebraska-Omaha and an undergraduate degree from Creighton University. He currently leads supervision of leadership and oversight of Iowa’s 327 public school districts, 32 educator preparation programs and 15 community colleges, as well as implementation of legislation. Wise has led the state department since July 1, 2015. He will begin the Drake role by June 30, heading a school of education with more than 1,000 students. Wise will succeed Janet McMahill, who begins a faculty sabbatical on Dec. 31. Read our Closer Look on Wise.
