Iowa native Tanner Hockensmith has returned to his home state to run the Iowa chapter of The ALS Association, which serves patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig's disease, and their families.

Hockensmith had worked in fundraising and development for nine years in Dallas. Prior to joining The ALS Association, he was cultural center director for Life in Deep Ellum in Dallas, managing donor relationships, organizing community events and acting as head of public relations.

He also served as vice president of the Deep Ellum Community Association, overseeing fundraising efforts and developing a branding campaign for the historic Deep Ellum neighborhood in Dallas.
