Mercy Medical Center - Des Moines has announced two new physician leadership appointments. Dr. Wael Haidar has been named chief physician executive, effective immediately, and Dr. Tommy Ibrahim has been named chief physician officer, effective in May. A search committee recommended splitting the chief medical officer role, currently held by Dr. Dale Andres, into two distinct positions, Mercy President Bob Ritz said in a release. "These two physicians each bring proven leadership experience and an ability to foster a sense of teamwork in achieving excellence," Ritz said. "We also offer our sincere appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Dale Andres." Haidar is currently vice president of Mercy's Hospital Services Division. Ibrahim comes to Mercy from St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Ill. where he has served as chief physician executive since 2011. Andres will continue to serve as the medical director of Mercy's Clinical Laboratory while assisting in further development of regional outreach programs.
