Veterans seeking mental health and primary care will now have access to same-day or next-day service at the VA Medical Center in Des Moines through the new MyVA initiative, the Veterans Administration announced Wednesday. "By utilizing our entire health care team and innovative health care options like telehealth, we are committed that Central Iowa Veterans receive the best, most timely care," said Gail Graham, director of the Des Moines medical center. Additionally, the VA's five satellite clinics in Carroll, Fort Dodge, Knoxville, Marshalltown and Mason City "are also working hard towards offering same day primary care and mental health services in the near future," Graham said in a release. The VA's Office of Inspector General is currently responding to inquiries by U.S. Sen. Joni Ernst into the recent suicides of two Iowa veterans who committed suicide after being unable to access timely care at the VA medical centers in Iowa City and Des Moines.
