Des Moines palliative care doctor named hospice company CMO
Wednesday, February 21, 2018 11:38 AM
Dr. Timothy Ihrig, a nationally known expert in palliative care who is based in Des Moines, has been named chief medical officer of
Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care
, a leading hospice provider that operates 11 locations in seven states. Ihrig is a long-standing advocate for treating patients with life-limiting illnesses according to their individual priorities and life goals, focusing on full transparency and quality of life. His TED Talk, “
What We Can Do to Die Well
,” urges doctors to focus not so heavily on clinical interventions at the expense of overlooking patients’ overall quality of life and helping them navigate serious illnesses from diagnosis to death with dignity and compassion. He is endorsed by the Center to Advance Palliative Care as a clinician-educator and serves as a consultant to palliative care entities and Accountable Care Organizations globally. A spokesman said that Crossroads does not plan to open an Iowa location.
