I was chatting with a few Greater Des Moines leaders before an Iowa AgriTech Accelerator news conference in the gardens outside the World Food Prize on June 13, when we all noticed Joe Murphy of the Greater Des Moines Partnership strolling up the walk. He was hard to miss. Murphy, whose official title is almost as long as his coat — senior vice president of government relations and public policy — was wearing a white-and-blue pinstripe suit, some sort of beige shoes and multicolored socks with a hint of Native American design on them. “Does your wife know you left the house like that?” the ever supportive Partnership President Gene Meyer said to Murphy. Without missing a beat, the smiling Murphy responded: “She was still asleep when I left.”
