Grinnell Mutual announced it has promoted Steve Scherf to vice president of the company’s Underwriting, Sales and Service division, effective June 21. Scherf replaces Kurt Eaves, who will retire from that role on June 20. Scherf joined the Grinnell-based insurer in 1988 as a sales manager in northern Illinois. He also worked as a commercial underwriter and as a director of commercial lines underwriting. In 2021, Scherf accepted the position of assistant vice president of commercial lines and oversaw the loss control department as well as commercial underwriting. “I have known and worked with Steve for many years,” said Grinnell Mutual President and CEO Jeff Menary. “He has been a student of our industry and has the ability to digest complex insurance issues and boil them down in a way that others can understand their key points.” Scherf is a graduate of Central College, where he earned a degree in business management. He also holds a certified insurance counselor designation.
