The Iowa Senate approved a bill Tuesday to extend new protections to workers who are owed wages by employers, The Des Moines Register reported. Senate Democrats supported the bill, Republicans opposed it. The bill would require businesses to notify workers of their wages in writing and how they're going to be paid. A 2012 study by The Iowa Policy Project estimates that "wage theft" costs Iowa workers $600 million per year  Republican legislators have opposed additional regulations on business owners.
