More Iowans were in poverty in 2012 than when the recession started, according to U.S. Census Bureau data analyzed by the Iowa Fiscal Partnership. A total of 12.7 percent of Iowans were in poverty in 2012, up from 11 percent in 2007. Median income was $50,957 in 2012, also down from $52,471 in 2007.
