Urbandale-based Golden Openings Inc. is the recipient of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Dream Big Small Business of the Year award. The honor was presented to the company at the Annual Small Business Summit, held Sept. 10-13 in Washington, D.C.

The Dream Big award recognizes a small business that exemplifies the spirit of innovation, entrepreneurship and individual initiative. The winner also demonstrates success and leadership across multiple platforms, including business growth performance, innovative business strategies, community engagement, and customer and employee relations.

Founded in 1997 by Kimberly Baeth, Golden Openings specializes in organizing grand openings, groundbreakings and other special events for companies around the world. Golden Openings was selected by a panel of judges from 18 finalists under consideration for a total of five Business Achievement Awards and the Dream Big Small Business of the Year Award.

As the recipient of the Dream Big award, Golden Openings receives a $25,000 prize. 

Golden Openings was also recognized with the Community Excellence Award after it was selected by online public vote. The Community Excellence Award honors an organization that positively influences the quality of life in its community and serves the needs of its customers, employees and neighbors.
