Iowa house sales increased 7.1 percent in September from the same month last year, the Iowa Association of Realtors said today.

The median sale price increased 6.4 percent to $133,000 from $125,000 in September 2012, and the average sale price was $153,890 last month, up 3.9 percent from $148,158 the previous year.


Average days on the market dropped 16 percent. For the quarter ended Sept. 30, sales were up 11.7 percent, median sale price increased 6.6 percent, average price rose 7.8 percent and houses were on the market 77 days, down from 96 in the year-ago quarter.


The National Association of Realtors said today that sales of previously owned houses dropped 1.9 percent in September and the median sales price increased 11.7 percent to $199,200. Despite the slump, sales nationwide were 10.7 percent higher than a year ago.
