Age 30  |  Marketing manager, R&R Realty Group

Real estate and charity, is there time for anything else in Justin Lossner’s life?

Last year, he leased more than 80,000 square feet of space for R&R Realty Group, making two of the company’s 10 largest deals. He is responsible for leasing more than 5 million square feet of commercial office, warehouse, flex and retail space in Greater Des Moines. He also provides tenant representation and brokerage services for local and national clients.

Prior to joining R&R, he helped Principal Global Investors’ East Coast acquisition team acquire more than $500 million in commercial real estate investments in two years.

And before that, he worked for Darin Ferguson at Ferguson Commercial Real Estate Services in Clive. The two men shared a zeal for real estate and charity, with Ferguson acting as Lossner’s mentor.

“Darin taught me that it takes a lot of patience and drive and you have to handle being told ‘no’ a lot, and still staying positive,” Lossner said.

Both men graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and were members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, which instilled a commitment to helping out in the community.

“A lot of people just don’t get it,” Ferguson said. “They don’t understand the man-hours involved to make things happen.”

In college, Lossner took leadership roles with the American Red Cross, where he planned a 600-person blood drive after 9/11; volunteered at the Cedar Falls Senior Center; and was Special Olympics event chairman.

In Greater Des Moines, he has been a member of the Des Moines Social Club, which promotes arts in the community, since its inception. He is a senior committee member of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. His team raised more than $10,000 in three months last year to send a child and his family to Hawaii.

Lossner launched a “Man of the Year” campaign for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society after learning that Ferguson had developed lymphoma in 2009.

He joined Road Rally Charities in 2010 and helped plan a 300-mile, 15-hour race to raise money for local nonprofit organizations.

“I don’t know why I thought I had the time, but I found the time and loved doing it,” Lossner said of the experience.

“He’s just a class guy with a smile on his face 24/7 who is just ready to work,” Darin Ferguson, founder of Ferguson Commercial Real Estate Services in Clive, said about Justin Lossner.
