About me:

I’m the new kid at the Business Record, although I’m no kid by any stretch of the imagination.

You may recognize my byline from the Des Moines Register, where I worked for nearly 40 years as a reporter and editor. I left the Register in February after accepting a buyout package.

I am blessed to be continuing my journalism career at the Business Record, where I’ll report on real estate development, both commercial and residential; development-related issues being addressed by governing bodies; and anything else the bosses ask me to cover.

The beat is one with which I’m familiar. What seems like eons ago, I was a business reporter at the Register and my main beat was real estate development. In fact, Business Record copy editor Kurt Helland was one of my editors on the business desk. Over the years, I’ve also covered education – both K-12 and higher education – local government, and public safety.

When I’m not working, you can find me on one of the great Des Moines-area trails riding my bicycle, golfing, gardening, quilting or spending time with my granddaughter.

Please call or email me with story ideas or tips, information about upcoming events, or just to say “hi.”
