, a Web portal for Iowans to pay their property taxes and vehicle registration taxes, has begun accepting in-person mobile payments and online check transfers through Dwolla Inc.'s mobile payment platform. The service is available in 11 counties, including Polk. "Dwolla not only provides better tracking and accountability for our local governments; it also gives our citizens a convenient and inexpensive way to pay their taxes," said Mary Maloney, Polk County treasurer, in a press release. "This is the definition of smart government." People who pay the taxes using Dwolla will only pay a 30- to 40-cent administrative fee and will forgo paying a credit or debit card fee, said Jordan Lampe, a spokesperson with Dwolla.
