We know how much some of you anticipate each year’s Inaugural Flow Visualization Competition — almost more than the season premier of “Game of Thrones.” And it’s a fine image to think of the winners onstage in Hawaii, basking in the glow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers Fluids Engineering Division's summer meeting, where an Iowa State University dream team won the contest for best video the other day. On the team: professor Ted Heindel and graduate students Julie Bothell, Danyu Li and Timothy Morgan. The video, titled “High Speed X-Ray Imaging of an Airblast Atomizer,” features research that used the Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory, if you hadn’t heard already. That allowed the team to explore “gas swirl ratios” and “high speed gas” concepts. Read the full news release
