Wells Enterprises, the Le Mars-based owner of Blue Bunny, has purchased Fieldbrook Foods of New York state for an undisclosed sum, the Corridor Business Journal reported. The purchase from Arbor Investments improves Wells' access to East Coast markets. The combined companies will have 3,800 employees and the capacity to produce 200 million gallons of ice cream. President and CEO Michael Wells tells Food Business: “Ice cream is a challenging category. ... It continues to grow in dollars and is relatively flat in per capita consumption and pounds produced. In that environment, you've either got to go steal share or you've got to acquire it."
