A new neighborhood commercial building for the Drake area
A building at the corner of 32nd Street and Forest Avenue will be converted to a neighborhood commercial building.
The 8,700-square-foot building at 3201 Forest Ave. will undergo renovations starting late fall. The project is expected to be completed by February.
The plan calls for changing the current single-tenant commercial building into a retail and office center.
The 35-year-old structure is currently occupied by Academy Trophies & Awards. Jim Eaton, president of Academy Trophies & Awards, did not disclose the company’s relocation plans.
“It’s a natural corridor to get downtown,” said Jake Christensen, vice president of Nelson Construction and manager for the project. “We’re happy to be in between Drake and Beaverdale.”
The site plan calls for six retail bays ranging from 1,100 to 2,600 square feet. The cost of the project is estimated at $1.3 million. There are no signed leases for the building at this time.
“I think people will be surprised that this building is here once the new storefront is added,” Christensen said. The project is receiving a three-year tax abatement.
