Adel, Marshalltown and Lansing receive Hometown Grants from T-Mobile
Three Iowa communities have been named among 25 winners by T-Mobile in the cellular company’s Hometown Grants program. Adel and Marshalltown in central Iowa and Lansing in northeast Iowa have each been named winners in the grant program, which provides up to $50,000 to small towns to jump-start vital community development projects. Adel’s $41,566 grant will go toward beautifying Pedal Plaza, including seating, shade structures, landscaping and a musical flower art installment to promote community walkability and gathering. “The city of Adel is excited to see this creative and engaging project come to life,” said Adel Mayor James Peters, “as it will connect residents and visitors in meaningful ways.” Lansing’s grant will be used to redevelop the Lansing Community Plaza in the historic downtown district, to include a mural, canopy, landscaping, lighting, benches and new concrete surfaces. In Marshalltown, the Hometown Grant will be used to reconstruct downtown State Street, including enhancements to landscaping and safety and accessibility infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists, to repair damage after the 2018 EF-3 tornado disaster. Mason City and Fairfield received grants in earlier quarterly funding rounds. Launched in April 2021, T-Mobile Hometown Grants is a $25 million, five-year initiative to support the people and organizations who help small towns across America thrive and grow.
