Airport board to consider airline incentives, Uber
The Des Moines Airport Authority Board on Tuesday will consider an incentive program of up to $750,000 to encourage flights to more destinations, or full service to current stops. An airline would be able get up to $250,000 in waived landing fees and advertising and marketing assistance. The incentives would be similar to some offered a few years ago. The Uber agreement would allow the ride service to operate at the airport. Airport CEO and General Manager Kevin Foley said he considers Uber a limousine service that should pay the airport $3 per trip, but the company argues it is a taxi service and should pay $2.50 a trip.
