Des Moines International Airport, already handling record passenger traffic, saw 12% growth in April, compared with the same month last year. The year-to-date total exceeded 900,000, 8.7% higher than last year. Airport chief Kevin Foley has said the airport may reach 3 million passengers this year, a milestone that will test the facilities. The airport is planning a $500 million overhaul that would include a new terminal, but is still looking for the final $200 million. Among the larger carriers, American Airlines led the way in April with growth of 24.7%.
