The additional routes are part of the airline’s addition of 34 nonstop routes nationwide. The new routes from Des Moines include Houston, San Diego and Portland, Ore. In a news release, Allegiant’s senior vice president of revenue, Drew Wells, said the airline is anticipating an increase in air travel this summer. “We expect a lot of pent-up demand for travel, especially for places where people can hike, fish, camp or visit the beach,” Wells said in the release. “With this expansion, we’ve added even more service to destinations known for their outdoor appeal.” In the release, the company said one-way fares to the new destinations will begin as low $59.
