Interstate Power and Light Co., an Alliant Energy Corp. company, announced that it will cycle air conditioners for all participating Iowa customers in the Appliance Cycling Program from 1 to 7 p.m. today.

The event is expected to reduce overall electricity demand by 33 megawatts by shutting the outdoor cooling unit off and on every 15 minutes. The furnace fan will continue to circulate the cooler, drier air through the house. Alliant has 48,000 participating customers throughout the state, and pays each customer $8 per month from June through September. Today is the 10th time this year Alliant has implemented a cycling event.
