Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Polk County and the Altoona Enabling Garden will host Children’s Art in the Garden today from 6 to 8 p.m. New to the event this year are a music station where children will use percussion instruments, and a StoryWalk where attendees can walk through the garden and read “The Color Monster,” a book by Anna Llenas. The StoryWalk aims to engage families with books and encourage kid-friendly conversations about mental health. “The Color Monster” is a book about emotions and is an easy way to help kids understand their feelings and how to sort through them. For families and children unable to attend the art event, the StoryWalk will remain available for the remainder of the week. Admission to the Children’s’ Art in the Garden event is free, with donations accepted to support the work of the Enabling Garden.
