Latcham, who had been Anawim Housing executive director since 2020, succeeds Russ Frazier, who left the group in May. Latcham previously had been director of programs and services at Anawim Housing, which was founded in 1987 and is Iowa’s largest provider of permanent supportive housing.
Latcham received her master’s degree in public administration from Drake University and serves on the statewide Permanent Supportive Housing Advisory Committee.
“I cannot think of anyone better suited to continue Anawim’s legacy than Cynthia Latcham,” Matt Callanan, vice chair of Anawim’s board of directors, said in a prepared statement. “Cynthia’s experience, thoughtfulness, and passion are unmatched. I cannot be more excited to watch Anawim thrive under her guidance. … I look forward to continuing to address the shortage of both affordable housing and permanent supportive housing in Iowa.”
Latcham assumed her role as president on Monday.
A celebration event planned for June 29 will commemorate Frazier’s 13 years with Anawim Housing and Latcham’s appointment as president. More details about the event, which will be held at the Des Moines Art Center, will be available on Anawim’s website at a later date.
