The Angel Capital Association has announced investment in nine regional startups that recently presented in Des Moines at the annual Best of Midwest Conference, hosted by local investment group Plains Angels.

Hosted by the Greater Des Moines Partnership and BrownWinick Law Firm, the event drew 140 attendees, including 90 accredited investors. Des Moines companies Pitchly and MakuSafe will receive an equal investment along with Alchemie, FourStarzz Media, Metametrix, Recoup, Sense Diagnostics, SpellBound and Thrivors; the exact amount per startup will be determined in October.

“This was a once-in-a-generation opportunity to host this caliber of event for angel investors in Greater Des Moines,” said Mike Colwell, executive director of entrepreneurial initiatives at the Greater Des Moines Partnership. “It’s great that of the nine startups to have received investment from conference attendees, two are from Greater Des Moines.”
