They can’t build houses fast enough in Ankeny, apparently. For a second consecutive year, the city of Ankeny’s Planning & Building Department has reported a near-record number of issued building permits. For 2013, the city issued 2,082 building permits, tying the second-highest total in 2012 and slightly behind 2005’s record 2,240 permits. The activity indicates a post-recession pent-up demand for development in Ankeny, Planning & Building Director Eric Jensen said in a release. The 2013 permits resulted in more than $281 million in construction value, the second-highest in the city’s history behind the $284 million generated in 2012. Ankeny had 994 new residential permits last year, including 636 new single-family homes.
