Ankeny names new fire chief

Vance Swisher, pictured, who has 27 years of experience in fire administration, has been selected as Ankeny’s fire chief. Swisher will replace James Clack, who retired in December after serving eight years as the suburb’s fire chief. Swisher currently is the deputy fire chief in Rochester, Minn., where has worked since 1999. He has been the deputy chief since 2010. He previously served as the community’s fire marshal and deputy director of emergency management. Swisher previously worked in the Cedar Rapids, Iowa, fire department. Swisher has a master’s degree in fire and emergency management administration from Oklahoma State University. He also has attained his executive fire officer and chief fire officer certifications from the National Fire Academy and the Commission on Professional Credentialing/Center for Public Safety Excellence, respectively. He will begin working for Ankeny on Feb. 20. His annual salary will be $156,000.
